Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste (not to be confused with the surf beach of the same name near Jacó) is a long, gently curving bay of gray sand about ten minutes north of Playas del Coco and twenty-five minutes from Liberia airport. The water is calm enough for swimming most of the year, the beach has held Costa Rica's Blue Flag for cleanliness, and the low-rise development along it is mostly villas and small condo projects rather than high-rises.
Buyers come to Hermosa for the beach itself and for the views from the hills at either end of the bay. It is more expensive per square meter than Coco and Ocotal, with fewer entry-level options, and it attracts owners who plan to spend serious time here rather than pure investors. Coco's services are a short drive away, and the Papagayo peninsula resorts are just beyond the northern headland.
The one in Guanacaste, on the Gold Coast between Playas del Coco and the Papagayo peninsula. Costa Rica has several beaches named Hermosa; the Guanacaste one is a calm, swimmable bay, while the Playa Hermosa near Jacó on the central Pacific is a heavy surf beach.
Our current listings in Playa Hermosa range from $525,000. Ocean views, walking distance to the beach, and gated communities with pools carry a premium; inland lots and older Costa Rican homes offer the most for the money.
